Charity Update November 2019 – the good, the bad and the (not-so) ugly
We’ve got some great news to share…
Studio 3 development
Throughout the year Trustees have been discussing options for ‘Studio 3‘, and developing plans for future development, but not expecting the work to do done for a few years yet.
This week we signed off on plans for the conversion, and the builders start work on 6 January!
Currently a cold, dark and rather unloved storage space – as you can see from the photo – Studio 3 will be a similar size and standard as Studio 1. We hope to eventually further develop this space, but those plans are still under wraps and subject to approval.
A corridor will be created to the side of the Studio, which will later provide internal access to the rear building.
Co-op Local Community Fund
We are also receiving just over £3000 from the Co-op Local Community Fund. This money will be used to install a publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Huge thanks to everyone who has supported this. We hope that this life-saving equipment will be installed and available early next year.
Race Night Postponed
The bad news? We’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone the Race Night planned for next week. We hope to hold this in the Spring.
New Trustees
We also welcomed two new Trustees at this week’s Trustee Meeting. Both are long-standing supporters of Equal People Performing Arts, and parents of MTC Students.
Phil Turner brings a wealth of experience – 25 years apparently… he doesn’t look old enough! – working with children and families, and also adults with learning difficulties. He currently works at the YMCA Community School is Southend as the Safeguarding and Attendance Lead, and you may have seen or heard him in Essex Vocal Coaching’s Equal People Choir.
Steve Westrop has a background in charity and business management with several previous charity roles, including the Operations Director and Chair of a national disability charity, and five years supporting businesses as frontline operations manager for a micro-multinational. He already manages the online presence of both Equal People and MTC through his company, S6 Connect, and chairs the Fundraising Committee.
