The Mushroom Theatre Company was set up in 2004 in Rayleigh with the intention of promoting the benefits of the performing arts, alongside the aim of creating a fully inclusive Theatre Company for the community.
We integrate children with Special Educational needs in all our classes and performances. We believe that this approach is beneficial for not just children with disabilities, but also for the non-disabled children, whom we feel are helped by breaking down their ignorance and possible fear towards disabilities.
MTC offers an environment away from the stresses of everyday life, and we believe that the performing arts have many social and therapeutic benefits, yet are often disregarded. All are welcome to attend our classes- regardless of gender, race, sexuality or ability. We offer specialist classes for individuals with Special Needs on Saturday mornings, however none of our classes are restricted due to ability, and therefore our company provides an excellent opportunity for the development of social interaction. Our emphases are on the development of self-esteem and teamwork, and as a result believe that our work is very beneficial to individuals with disabilities and for young adults.
The space at EPPA means that everyone can access the Performing Arts in a safe a dignified Way. The building means we can provide equity to disabled an disadvantaged students, which means we are not only able to offer inclusion but the level playing field that means disabled people can be included- ‘we can’t all use steps but we can all use ramps’.

The Company was formed in 1948 by a dozen or so enthusiasts, most of whom had some experience on the amateur stage, and was originally called The Little Theatre Club.
The original intention was to present shows in a modest way for charities, but within a few months it was learned that, owing to a cancelled booking, it was possible to hire the Palace Theatre, Westcliff, for a week. And so, in December 1949 the first LTC production was staged – “No No Nanette”. Since then, the company has presented over 160 productions.
Little Theatre Company celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2024, and with a reputation for bold staging and award-winning performances it’s no wonder many alumni have gone on to forge successful careers in theatre and entertainment, including company president Gemma Craven, actor and presenter Lee Mead, Mark Cotgrove aka jazz musician Snowboy, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Fast and the Furious’ actress Nathalie Emmanuel and Hana Stewart who has starred in ‘Six the musical’ in the West End and Broadway.

No Stress Networking is a welcoming and relaxed space where building genuine connections comes naturally.
The group values inclusivity and ensures everyone feels comfortable and part of the community, whether you are a seasoned networker or brand new. It is about more than just business as members exchange referrals, form meaningful friendships, and support each other both professionally and personally.
Every gathering is made even more enjoyable with cake, adding a touch of fun to our meetups. What makes it even more special is that every ticket purchased helps raise money for the Equal People Performing Arts Charity (registered charity no. 1116649), allowing us to give back and make a positive difference while growing together.
